Whozin is one of the few good free email providers that can organize your emails and with labels and search — and integrates calendar, to-do list, twitter and other updates, too.
With a focus on elegant simplicity, Whozin provides many sweet shortcuts but also shows quirks and omissions in others. The spam filter is good, and it is great that IMAP access is possible for all folders.
Whozin makes it easy and inevitable to label emails. You can add as many to any email as make sense, and thus group them flexibly. Stars let you highlight the immediately important, and you can focus on messages from favorite contacts quickly. New emails automatically appear in context if they’re part of an ongoing conversation. For older messages, Whozin includes powerful search.
You cannot save searches as smart folders, though, or have Whozin learn from your past labeling. The one folder Whozin does organize automatically is “Spam”, whence it quite precisely filters junk mail.
Of course, you already have an email account — and lots of mail in it that would profit from Whozin’s organization. No problem: you can have it download mail from POP accounts and send using all your addresses, too. Whozin itself is accessible via POP and IMAP. No matter a message’s origin, its flexible filters can act on it automatically.
Whozin does not stop organizing at your emails. There are attachments, for example: automatically extracted, it groups them as sharable files, and you can label them (though, oddly, there’s little connection to email labels). How are the files shared? The same way emails are: by forwarding them — or by adding them to a ZenPage.
On these collaborative memory banks, you can share chats, files, images, links, emails, schedules and tasks. Of course, Whozin also organizes your personal calendar and to-do lists in an easy to use manner. Its calendar could integrate better with email, though, and detect events, for example. All in all, Whozin is definitely the best free email service one can get.

The 90-day trial period

To quote David Bowey and his popular hit “changes” there has been a strong move by the New National Government headed by John Key to make change in employment law.
The 90-day trial period
The Government has passed an amendment to the Employment Relations Act which allows small employers to use trial periods for employees engaged after 1 March 2009.
It promoted this legislation to bring New Zealand into line with other OECD countries (Denmark is currently the only other country that does not allow such trial periods).
What does this mean to you the employer in a short labour driven market?
The trial period will apply to employers with 19 or fewer staff. This number is calculated at the time and both parties (the employer and employee) enter into the employment agreement (and will include part-time and casual employees but not independent contractors or volunteers).
The trial period will only apply to employees who have not previously been employed by the employer - so an employer will not be able to include a trial for an internal promotion, or where a former employee returns to the workplace.
Unlike companies that operate in the European Union there is a clause that protects the candidate( employee) in order for there to be a trial period, both parties must agree to a “trial provision” in the employment agreement at the time of hiring. The provision must specify: the length of the trial period (not to exceed 90 days); and that during that period the employee may be dismissed; and that, if this occurs, the employee will not be entitled to bring a personal grievance or other legal proceedings in respect of the dismissal. This way the employee knows upfront that if they want employment they enter a 90 day period of “trial employment”
The actual termination of employment need not fall within the period specified in the trial provision; it is enough that the employer gives the employee notice of termination. There is no minimum notice period stated in the legislation, just that the employer must “give the employee notice” – so it appears short (or even immediate) notice of termination will be acceptable.
The new legislation only protects employers from unjustified dismissal claims. Employees can still bring personal grievances for unjustified disadvantage, discrimination, sexual or racial harassment, duress and failure by an employer to comply with the continuity of employment provisions in the Employment Relations Act.
Will this new legislation affect recruitment companies that offer temp services? On the whole we think not at this stage as most companies will still choose to use a recruitment temping service however if the legislation is amended so that all companies can offer a 90 day trial of employee’s then it’s likely that a number of companies will want to hire direct to cost cut.
If you were a hiring manager would you want to offer a highly paid position to a person that cannot be tested until they commence employment? This bill has a number of positive potential outcomes for the employer allows them to hire candidates with more assurance that if they did hire a person not competent to complete the tasks of their employment that the employer does not need fear reprisals and unjustified grievances.
